Abstract

This talk is designed to appeal broadly to psychologists in general practice. The talk is designed to help psychologists better understand the different ways/means that they might be called as a witness for court or some other legal proceeding. There will be a discussion about the court process in general as well as a discussion of frequent pitfalls psychologists might experience in delivering testimony.

  • Learning about different legal contexts where one might testify

  • Knowing the differences between a general and expert witness

  • Learning the case law pertaining to testifying in court

  • Knowing general strategies to prepare for court

  • Learning how to respond to a subpoena
